Monsignor Robert J. Vitillo is secretary general of the International Catholic Migration Commission. Until June 2016 he was the special representative on HIV/AIDS with Caritas Internationalis, directing its response to the global pandemic, and head of the Caritas delegation to the United Nations in Geneva. He previously served as executive director of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) from 1997 to 2005. Prior to joining the USCCB staff, Vitillo was a Caritas Internationalis delegate to the United Nations and to the World Bank and served as consultant to UNICEF in Eastern and Central Europe on the development of family-centered programs to benefit children in need. Vitillo has also served as president of the National Catholic AIDS Network board of directors and co-convenor of the Strategy Group on HIV and AIDS for the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance. His background is in social work and psychotherapy.
