Dr. Sangeetha Chavan has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in microbiology and biotechnology for the last 20 years at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Besides teaching, Chavan has been involved with the College Scholarship Committee for the last 7 years. As convener of the committee, she is associated with the Students’ Beneficiary Fund (SBF); the SBF helps financially disadvantaged students by giving them concessions in tuition fees and other college expenses. In addition, Chavan is the coordinator for the Pathways programme in College, which focuses on increasing access to higher education, especially for students belonging to socially and culturally disadvantaged groups. This programme is supported by the Pathways Cell; Centre for Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore; and the Ford Foundation’s Pathways to Higher Education Programme. Chavan has a master’s of science and a PhD in microbiology.
