Shafferan Sonneveld is an international human rights consultant researching Islamic Feminism and the intersection of sharia with international women’s rights. As a consultant for Muslims for Progressive Values, she created and led the implementation of the #ImamsForShe initiative, which is geared to support and promote the active participation of imams, Muslim community leaders, and Islamic scholars in advocating for women’s rights and gender equality. She also spoke at the Women and Faith panel discussion in New York hosted by the United Nations Department of Information in 2015. Shafferan holds a master’s degree in International Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands.
