Sofia
Lemmetyinen is the program manager at the European Instrument for Democracy and
Human Rights’ unit of the European Commission’s Directorate for Development
Cooperation, where she is in charge of issues relating to freedom of religion
or belief. From 2008 to 2013 she worked as EU Advocate at Christian Solidarity
Worldwide. In this capacity, she also served as a member of the board of the
European Platform on Religious Intolerance and Discrimination from 2008 to 2011
and as one of the coordinating troika members of the Human Rights and Democracy
Network from 2011 to 2013. She has also worked with the Crisis Management
Initiative and the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office. Lemmetyinen holds an
M.A. in comparative religion from Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland and
an M.A. in EU international relations from College of Europe in Bruges,
Belgium.
