Congressman Walter B. Jones, Jr. was the Republican representative for North Carolina's Third District from 1995 until his death in February 2019. Prior to that he spent 10 years as an elected member of the North Carolina General Assembly. Jones renounced his earlier support for the war in Iraq and in 2005 began a concerted effort to recall American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Jones was a convert to Catholicism who championed the pro-life cause.
