William Werpehowski is professor emeritus at Georgetown University, where he held the Robert L. McDevitt, K.S.G., K.C.H.S. and Catherine H. McDevitt L.C.H.S. Chair in Catholic Theology and was a Berkley Center senior research fellow from 2019 through June 2025. His areas of scholarly interest include Christian theological ethics, Catholic social thought, and the ethics of war and peace. Werpehowski taught classes supported through the Berkley Center's Doyle Seminars project. He is the author of Karl Barth and Christian Ethics: Living in Truth (2014) and American Protestant Ethics and the Legacy of H. Richard Niebuhr (2002), and has co-edited The Oxford Handbook of Theological Ethics (2005, with Gilbert Meilaender). He previously spent several decades as a professor of theology and director of the Center for Peace and Justice Education at Villanova University.
