Jewish-Christian Relations: Contemporary Challenges and Opportunities

Leader: Abraham Skorka

While the last 60 years have seen undeniable progress in Jewish-Christian relations, major challenges remain. Since the Roman Catholic Church repudiated antisemitism at the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), popes from John XXIII to Francis have sought to deepen dialogue and promote reconciliation. A wide array of Jewish and Christian leaders, working in academic and practical interfaith settings, are working today to find common ground between both traditions and to address the persistence antisemitism in today’s world.

In this conversation series, Rabbi Abraham Skorka–a leader in interfaith relations and author of a book on the topic with Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio (now Pope Francis)–engages in dialogues with leading scholars and practitioners in the field. The series is co-sponsored by the Center for Jewish Civilization and the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University.
