Ahead of a conference entitled “Persecuted Christians: Saving Christianity in the Middle East,” Religious Freedom Project Director Tom Farr discusses the fate of Christianity and other religious minorities threatened by the rise of ISIS. After noting that the majority of Muslims in the Middle East do not support violent extremism, Farr explains that religious freedom is not just a Western value. Instead, religious liberty has roots in five major world religions, including Islam, and can create the conditions for economic growth and stable democracy. Farr then criticizes the Obama administration for failing to defend Christians in the Middle East and recommends a policies that the United States can take to end persecution.
