Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor, the South African minister of international relations and cooperation, has contributed to South Africa’s leadership in the Global South in times of rapid change and growth. In her speech, Pandor discussed the importance of multilateralism, the global effects of trade, and equality in respecting international law. In the moderated discussion with School of Foreign Service Dean Joel Hellman, Pandor spoke about the future of South Africa and its relationship with the world, as well as challenges she expects her county to face. Students asked a range of questions including apartheid affecting multinational relationships, the climate crisis, South African national elections’ impact on foreign affairs, and economic cooperation within Africa.
The event was hosted by the School of Foreign Service; the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs; and the African Studies Program.
