Aditi Rajeev Shirodkar is a Ph.D. candidate in the University of Chicago’s Department of Political Science and a summer 2018 doctoral fellow with the Berkley Center's Religious Freedom Research Project. Her research interests include religion and politics, comparative colonialism, post-colonial politics, and comparative political theory. Her dissertation centers on the politics of conversion through an analysis of the processes of Catholic conversion in early modern Portuguese Goa. Specifically, she focuses on the relationship between violent colonial conversion programs, indigenous uptake of the religion, and the new political visions that emerged through the process of conversion. A separate project also analyzes the ramifications of minoritization on populations with histories of colonial conversion in modern India.
