Sheikh Saleh Habimana is a member of Rwanda's parliament, elected in 2013, and previously served as head of political parties, nongovernmental organizations, and faith-based organizations for the Rwanda Governance Board. He served as the head mufti of Rwanda from 2001 to 2011, where he focused on the development of the Islamic Community of Rwanda, particularly the education of Muslim youth, and the larger need for social reconciliation among all the people of Rwanda. As head mufti, Habimana served along with Anglican Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini as head of the Interfaith Commission for Rwanda, established in 2003. In 2008 two United Religions Initiative-affiliated groups presented Habimana with the Golden Rule Peace Medal Award for his work in promoting interfaith reconciliation in Rwanda.
