Event Summary: Exploring Religion as Obstacle or Opportunity for Women's Empowerment
March 31, 2016
Issues related to gender have risen with great regularity and with particular sensitivity as the Berkley Center and WFDD have mapped the role of religion in development globally. With a goal to open space for dialogue about tensions, misconceptions, and opportunities at the intersection of feminism and religion, the organizations sponsored a parallel event at the sixtieth United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York City on March 19, 2016. Four panelists spanning differing religious traditions, geographic locations, and disciplines opened a dialogue summarized in this report.
