Religion, Women's Health and Rights: Points of Contention and Paths of Opportunities

Author: Katherine Marshall

May 20, 2016

This paper, edited by Katherine Marshall, was inspired by the meeting of leading thinkers from different religious traditions convened by UNFPA, with NORAD support, in Istanbul and then in New York in the course of 2014. The paper seeks to inform states, civil society organizations, including faith-based organizations and the United Nations, among others, about the context and the nature of debates and different perspectives related to some particularly sensitive issues around sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights. Its aim is achieving project sustainability and common ground among different actors to move forward gender equality and women’s human rights.
