The Fall and Rise of Religion in International Relations: History and Theory

Authors: Timothy Shah Daniel Philpott

March 1, 2011

Religion is a driving force in human affairs, yet many approaches to international politics downplay or ignore its place. In this book chapter, RFP Associate Director Tim Shah and Associate Scholar Daniel Philpott collaborated to examine the historical role of religion in approaches to international relations, while also considering a theoretical framework that can successfully account for the effect religion has on world events. This chapter appears in Religion and International Relations Theory (ed. Jack Snyder, 2011).
