Location: Online Zoom Webinar

In a report published by the Brookings Institution, “A Time to Heal, A Time to Build,” Melissa Rogers and E.J. Dionne, Jr. offer recommendations on how the next U.S. presidential administration should grapple with issues at religion's intersection with law, public policy, and social service partnerships. The report, one of the most comprehensive papers to date on religion's intersection with governance in the United States, is based on broad consultations with former administration officials of both parties, scholars, and leaders of religious and civil society institutions.

In this conversation, Rogers and Dionne discussed the findings of their report. They argued that from its first day in office, the next administration must have a considered and detailed plan of action. It must also organize itself to deal with church-state questions that inevitably arise and can be more divisive and disruptive than necessary if not dealt with carefully. Finally, they addressed how, on issues related to religion, our country can achieve a new start. A number of contributors to the report offered their reflections. The conversation was moderated by Berkley Center Director Shaun Casey.

This event was co-sponsored by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University and the Brookings Institution.
