Diwali, or Deepavali, commonly referred to as the festival of lights, is one of the most popular holidays in India. Meaning “row of lamps,” Deepavali is celebrated through all forms of lights, whether it be lighting clay lamps or setting off fireworks outside. Though celebrated a little differently around the world, every tradition and story is rooted in the triumph of good over evil, within and around us. At our Georgetown Diwali Dinner, the Hindu Students Association hopes to share an important part of Hindu culture with the entire Georgetown community through dinner-table discussions focusing on interfaith connections between Diwali and other religious festivals. There will also be delectable Indian food, as well as music and dancing! This event is co-sponsored by the Berkley Center.
