Faith-Inspired Activism and Global Civil Society: The Experience of Pax Christi

Pax Christi is a worldwide faith-based civil society network for peace anchored within the Catholic tradition. Founded in 1945 out of a desire to promote postwar Franco-German reconciliation, Pax Christi gradually developed into a movement with a strong focus on disarmament, human rights, and the role of religion in matters of war and peace. At this lunchtime seminar, Etienne De Jonghe, a research fellow at the Berkley Center, reflected on his nearly 30 years as secretary-general of Pax Christi International. His experiences, which include interaction with Eastern Europe during the Cold War and peacebuilding and development work in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East, are being folded into a book project.
