Global Economic Development: What the Trends Portend

Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank Dr. Kaushik Basu gave two lectures at Georgetown University as part of a semester-long conversation on “The Global Future of Development.”

The first lecture outlined the challenge of economic development in today’s world, drawing on long-term trends and contemporary risks, ranging from the Eurozone to BRICS. The lecture included a statement of the World Bank’s two mission goals of ending poverty and promoting shared prosperity and analyzed some of the trends from the perspective of these two goals. 

This event was sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement and the Office of the President.
