When God Means War, When God Means Peace: Explaining the Wild Variation in Religious Politics

The Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs sponsored a lecture by Professor Daniel Philpott of the University of Notre Dame on November 7, 2007 at Georgetown University. Philpott explored the diverse political pursuits of religious leaders and communities in an effort to uncover an explanation for the wild variation in religious politics. He then proposed that the varied political pursuits of religious communities are rooted in their relationship with the state, an argument that has important implications for American foreign policy.
