Jim Yong Kim became the twelfth president of the World Bank Group in 2012. As president of the World Bank Group, Kim has been at the forefront of the international response to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa and has helped mobilize unprecedented financing for the countries hit hardest by the Ebola crisis. A physician and anthropologist by training, Dr. Kim co-founded Partners in Health with Paul Farmer in 1987 and successfully treated drug-resistant tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS in developing countries. He subsequently directed the World Health Organization’s HIV/AIDS department and spearheaded the treatment of millions of patients in developing countries with antiretroviral drugs. From 2009 to 2012, Kim served as president of Dartmouth College. He holds an A.B. magna cum laude from Brown University, M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and Ph.D. from Harvard University.
