Mark E. Warren is Emeritus Merilees Chair for the Study of Democracy at the University of British Columbia, and former director of the UBC Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions. He taught previously at Georgetown University and Northwestern University, and served as president of the American Political Science Association in 2023-2024. Warren’s research interests fall primarily within the field of democratic theory. He is especially interested in new forms of citizen participation and representation, the relationship between civil society and democratic governance, and the corruption of democratic relationships. Warren co-founded Participedia, which uses a web-based platform to collect data about democratic innovation and participatory governance around the world.
