Michael Lwin, a second-generation Burmese-American, joined the Berkley Center as a Research Fellow in September 2009. He received his J.D. from the New York University School of Law in May 2009. He studied jurisprudence at The Queen's College, University of Oxford where he began research that culminated in a trip to the troubled country of Myanmar. Lwin has a paper pending for publication with UCLA on the prospect of post-racial America after the presidential election of Barack Obama, and is currently doing research on the 2008 Burmese constitution and the national elections the Burmese government says it is holding this year. He plans to join the D.C. law firm Arnold & Porter LLP in March. In his free time, Michael likes watching NFL games, playing basketball and tennis, and reading.
