Dr. Mohammad Hannan Hassan is the vice dean and deputy director for capacity building and interfaith engagement at Muis Academy in Singapore. Hassan has always been interested in philosophy and the history of ideas and civilizations, particularly in Islamic education. He specializes in Muslim-Jewish relations, interfaith relations, and history and philosophy of Islamic law in the Malay Archipelago. Under the supervision of renowned professors Wael Hallaq and Jamil Ragep, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation, Islamic Legal Thought and Practices of Seventeenth Century Aceh: Treating the Others, at McGill University's Institute of Islamic Studies in Canada. He was also a participant in the International Higher Education Interfaith Leadership Forum.
