Monique Valdepeñas is a junior at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, double majoring in speech language and hearing science and Spanish. Monique was born in the Philippines and moved to the Chicago suburbs with her family in 2008. Monique is fascinated by the connections between languages and how they shape people's understanding of the world. In university, she is an active member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and Spanish Club. After graduation, she plans to pursue degrees in speech pathology and/or Hispanic linguistics. Outside of classes, Monique enjoys baking, arts and crafts, and playing the guitar. She is a member of the IAJU Global Citizenship Fellows Program 2024 cohort.
