Monsignor Renzo Pegoraro has been president of the Pontifical Academy for Life since May 2025. He had previously served as chancellor of the academy since 2011. He earned a medical degree from the University of Padua, a degree in moral theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, and an advanced degree in bioethics from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. He has taught bio-ethics at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy and served as secretary-general of the Lanza Foundation in Padua. He also taught nursing ethics at the Bambino Gesù Paediatric Hospital in Rome and was president of the European Association of Centers of Medical Ethics from 2010 to 2013.
