Tommy Teravainen (C’22) was an undergraduate student in the College, where he studied government. Originally from Cape Cod, Tommy finds that the Potomac River makes up for what DC lacks in ocean views, and he is excited to be returning in the spring after a 10-month pandemic hiatus. On campus, Tommy worked as the general manager of the Hilltoss Cafe as a part of the Corp, balancing responsibilities ranging from mentoring new hires to developing student scholarships. Despite complications from the COVID-19 pandemic, Tommy leveraged his passion for community service and experience with the DC Reads program to virtually tutor and mentor DC youth through the After School Kids program over the summer. Since returning home, Tommy has found respite in running, advocacy with the Human Rights Campaign and Citizens’ Climate Lobby, spending way too much time on TikTok, and adding goat cheese to (almost) everything. He was also a 2021 Education and Social Justice Fellow.
