Profile

Wayne MacRae retired from the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps with the rank of captain in May 2024, culminating a career that covered operational tours with the Navy and Marine Corps as well as major staff assignments to include the U.S. Sixth Fleet in Naples, Italy, and the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. MacRae is a member of the Strategic Religious Engagement Hub Advisory Board, an initiative hosted by the Georgetown University Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs. Originally from New Jersey, he holds two master’s degrees from Wheaton College Graduate School and one from the U.S. Naval War College. He authored the article “Rightsizing Our Understanding of Religion” for Joint Forces Quarterly as the inaugural Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Instruction entitled “Strategic Religious Advisement.” In retirement he serves on a board of directors, is the military endorser for the religious organization he belongs to, and volunteers his time with various organizations.
