Developed in a collaboration between the Berkley Center and the Laudato Si’ Research Institute at Campion Hall, Oxford, this working paper by Agusto Zampini-Davies and Farhana Mayer explores the concepts of ecological sin and conversion in Christian and Islamic thought. The authors argue that both personal and structural transformation, grounded in scriptural guidance and a recognition of humanity’s role as co-creators, can foster ethical stewardship of the environment and promote sustainable flourishing for humans and all creation. This essay is scheduled for open-access publication by Brill/Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht in the Studies on Religious Social Practice series in 2026.
