Thursday, November 12, 2026
5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. EST
Location: Old North Hall Room 205 Map

This event highlights the publication of Black Life and Christian Spirituality (2026), the latest book by Berkley Center Senior Fellow and Joseph and Winifred Amaturo Chair in Catholic Studies Andrew Prevot. This book explores surprising connections between African American culture, history, and thought and Christian traditions of prayer, mysticism, and asceticism. Prevot will read a short selection from the text, and responses will be offered by Professor Min-Ah Cho, author of The Silent God and the Silenced: Contemplation and Mysticism Amid Suffering (2025), and Sherie Gayle, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies who studies race and gender in the contexts of Christianity and Islam. The conversation will be moderated by Gabrielle Matlock, outreach manager for the Berkley Center's Women Faith Leaders Fellowship.

The event is hosted by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and co-sponsored by the Department of Black Studies and the Department of Theology and Religious Studies.
