Building a Better Bridge

May 16-18, 2005

The "Fourth Building Bridges Seminar; Building a Better Bridge" was held in May 2005 in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The seminar, which alternates between majority Christian and majority Muslim locations, was co-hosted by leaders of the local Muslim, Roman Catholic and Orthodox communities. The focus of this seminar on the "Common Good" reflected the challenges faced by the local Christian and Muslim communities to find resources within their faiths to help build a nation and a civic society in light of the region's history of bitter conflict. From a variety of religious perspectives, participants from a number of different countries gave lectures on issues such as citizenship, government and religion, poverty, and the environment. A record of this seminar was published as Building a Better Bridge: Muslims, Christians, and the Common Good, ed. Michael Ipgrave (Georgetown University Press, 2008).
