In the City of Gold and Silver: Book Talk with Kenize Mourad

Kenize Mourad recounted the end of the Ottoman Empire through the lens of Princess Selma, her mother and the granddaughter of Sultan Mourad V, with her novel Regards from the Dead Princess (1989). Her book In the City of Gold and Silver (2013) is the story of Begum Hazrat Mahal, an orphan who became a renowned poet, married the ruler of the Indian state of Awadh, and went on to lead Muslims and Hindus in the Mutiny of 1857 against the British East India Company. 
Kenize discussed her latest work and the historical influence on her writing as an author and journalist.
