On September 29, 2026, the Waymarks Toward Reunion program held its opening dinner and lecture for Georgetown students in THEO 2011 Religion and the Arts. Vanessa Corcoran, director of the Catholic Studies Program at Georgetown University, gave a lecture on the ways the Virgin Mary has been encountered, honored, and contested through images and words across Christian history. She drew on medieval miracle stories of the Virgin and on the long history of the defacement of Marian art. Her lecture opened the course's unit on the divine Mother as a waymark toward reunion.
Waymarks Toward Reunion is a program of sacred art, theology, and interreligious dialogue led by Patrick Beldio, research fellow at the Berkley Center, and supported by the Creative Arts Collective for Christian Life and Faith.
