Kathleen Rutledge discusses the findings of a 2019 mixed methods study on the role of faith in coping and recovery in humanitarian contexts, conducted with nearly 1,400 adult women living in a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) one hour outside of Mosul, Iraq.

As of May 2023, over 110 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide because of conflicts, persecution, and human rights violations. An unsettling aspect of this crisis is the growing prevalence of displaced women and children, highlighting the interplay between gender and displacement.

The outstanding generosity of the Bangladeshi host community and international partnerships have allowed a million Rohingya refugees to survive in Bangladesh. But they themselves and their hosts face growing discontent. This essay offers some thoughts on ways to re-think and re-strategize.
