Anton L. Delgado is an award-winning freelance multimedia journalist covering news and investigating environmental issues across Southeast Asia. With the Pulitzer Center, Delgado has spent the past three years reporting on forest crimes in the region, with coverage spanning religious activism in Cambodia, remnants of war removal in the Mekong Delta, and continued demand for natural resources from Southeast Asia. His work has been supported by the Pulitzer Center’s Rainforest Investigations Network and Rainforest Journalism Fund. Delgado’s investigations have led to major collaborative projects, including “When Forests Fall Silent,” an in-depth investigation into Southeast Asia’s snaring crisis, published inThe Straits Times and, Southeast Asia Globe.
A forthcoming investigation into the impact of gold mining on rainforest ecosystems, set for publication with The New York Times, was funded by Pulitzer Center’s Rainforest Investigations Network and was the keystone of a collaboration with the University of Cambridge’s Digital Humanities School, incorporating drone footage and digital mapping to reveal the scale of environmental destruction wrought by the extractive gold industry in Cambodia. Delgado will discuss his work in a conversation with Katherine Marshall, senior fellow at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs.
This event is part of the Berkley Center’s ongoing collaboration with the Pulitzer Center.
