The connections between agriculture and religion have deep, historical roots. The agricultural sector is significantly influenced by religious leaders and institutions, and agricultural practices impact a community and nation’s environmental and economic security. In this project, I examine the relationship between the agricultural sector and religion by first analyzing the history of the relationship, focused on Ghana and Nigeria. I present multiple case studies, illustrating examples of interactions between folk religions and Christianity. I conclude by providing recommendations, influenced by USAID’s framework, for faiths or nations experiencing challenges due to this relationship.
