This paper explores the influence of U.S. evangelical groups on anti-gay sentiments in Uganda, particularly in light of Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2023 which criminalizes same-sex relations. The study traces the historical, religious, and political contexts that have shaped the current anti-LGBTQ climate, highlighting the significant role of U.S. evangelical organizations. Through financial support, media presence, and political lobbying, these groups have fostered anti-gay rhetoric and legislation in Uganda and across the rest of Africa. The paper argues that this reflects a broader shift in global Christianity, marked by increasing conservatism in the Global South, whose growing numbers give them significantly more power in decision-making.
