Looking Ahead: A Time of Encounter

Caring for the Other: Refugees and Displaced Persons Webinar

November 13, 2024
10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. EST RSVP Required
Location: Online Zoom Webinar

This webinar is the fourth and final panel for "Caring for the Other: Refugees and Displaced Persons." This conference, part of Georgetown University’s Culture of Encounter Project, will bring together faith leaders and practitioners in productive dialogue with one another to better understand what is at stake in their respective traditions’ positions on refugee issues and to seek shared ways forward.

With approaches to forced migration and immigration deeply polarized in many societies, this webinar will explore how religious communities can support positive change. Despite deep divisions within communities, the common calling of different religious traditions to welcome the stranger offers a foundation for dialogue, listening, and engagement—the essence of encounter. What actions and examples offer prospects for healing as we move forward?

This event is part of the Culture of Encounter Project and is convened by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and the Institute for the Study of International Migration at Georgetown University.
