Berkley Center and WFDD Remember the March 11, 2011 Tsunami and Nuclear Disasters in Japan

To mark the one-year anniversary of the March 11, 2011 "triple disaster" in Japan, the Berkley Center and WFDD co-sponsored an event to highlight the role of Shinto shrines and priests in the disaster response and recovery efforts in Japan. The event was part of Japan Awareness Month at Georgetown.

Dr. Mamphela Ramphele spoke with Angela Reitmaier in Cape Town on February 9, 2012 at a conference where Dr. Ramphele gave a keynote address on "Mining's Contribution to Sustainable Development." Dr. Ramphele reflects on the spiritual dimension that is needed to heal the many wounds that Apartheid inflicted on black citizens of South Africa.

Georgetown Awards Honorary Degree to Rowan Williams, Former Archbishop of Canterbury

On October 20, Georgetown bestowed its highest academic honor on Rev. Rowan Williams, a theologian and the former archbishop of Canterbury, in Gaston Hall. The Berkley Center co-sponsored the event as part of its support for the university’s annual Costan Lecture in Early Christianity, a series directed by Faculty Fellow Julia Lamm that invites leading scholars of early Christianity to campus.

Fathali Moghaddam Publishes New Book on Intergroup Relations

Georgetown University Psychology Professor and Berkley Center Faculty Fellow Fathali M. Moghaddam has published Theories of Intergroup Relations: Psychological Perspectives in Global Context (2026). This book examines major theories of intergroup behavior, including perspectives on identity, conflict, justice, multiculturalism, and intergroup contact. The Hoya spoke with Moghaddam about the book and his research on intergroup relations.
